Feta: Best choice for your gallbladder

Feta cheese is one of the best choices for your gallbladder and gallstones. It has less saturated and total fat than nearly all other cheeses (only mozzarella and cottage cheese have less fat per ounce.) Also, because of its powerful taste, it’s tough to eat as much of it at a time as you would with other cheeses. As with other cheeses, eat feta sparingly, but it’s one of the best choices of cheese for your gallbladder.

What is feta cheese?

Feta is a cheese that used to be made with sheep and goat’s milk in Greece and other Balkan countries. Now, it’s often made commercially with cow’s milk. In all cases, it’s made in a brine solution that adds the salty taste and gives it such high sodium content. It’s an aged crumbly cheese that is usually crumbled over Greek salads, used to make traditional Greek dishes such as spanakopita, and mixed into pastas and other salads.
